The Story of Determination and Success: Suad Returns to Education After 38 Years

A Story of Determination: Suad Az-Deen, a Syrian woman in her fifties, has not lost her determination to succeed.

She had dropped out 38 years ago due to her father passing and her early marriage. However, she returned to pursue her academic career when the opportunity arose and did not let age become a barrier to her ambitions.

Suad finds hope in the Masaarat Initiative

Suad hails from the village of Sejir in northwest Syria. She had great hope of continuing her education to achieve her dream, but her fate took a complete turn at the age of 12 when her father passed away and she got married early, assuming family responsibilities thereafter. Suad faced harsh conditions after her husband fell ill, which made her desire for education distant due to the high costs of schooling to support her family and secure a decent life for her children.

The Masaarat Initiative was a new hope for Suad, through which she was able to continue her educational journey free of charge from the comfort of her own home. She said, “Despite her advancing age and her responsibilities towards her children, grandchildren, and sick husband, she did not expect to resume her studies due to family responsibilities. However, when she learned that she could receive education while being at home through the Masaarat Initiative, she quickly joined it to continue her educational journey anew and fulfill her lifelong dream.”

The story of determination towards success in achieving the dream

The recorded video shows glimpses of Suad’s routine at home as well as during her attendance of classes. She affirmed that her goal in returning to education was her love for knowledge and acquiring expertise. She described education as not being limited to a specific age, as it starts from the cradle and continues until the grave.

She also shared the secret behind her determination to succeed and how she balanced family responsibilities with her educational journey through the Masaarat Initiative. She said, “She wakes up early to provide for the needs of her household and her sick husband. Then she starts reviewing her lessons through the Masaarat Initiative’s YouTube channel and completing the assignments given to her by the teachers from the previous day until the time for live classes via the Microsoft Teams application.

Mothers’ dreams become a beautiful reality with Masaarat

Suad dreamed of continuing her education to reach the university level, and thanks to the Masaarat Initiative, she successfully achieved her dream. She became a role model for many mothers who missed out on educational opportunities in their youth. The initiative provided them with the chance for online education within their homes, offering academic guidance and student activities to assist them in choosing their university majors.
