Illness has never been a barrier to obtaining knowledge, achieving goals and accomplishing successes that even those with full health may struggle to attain. This is something we have witnessed through a series of successful experiences carried out by students of Masarat.
From Pain to Hope
Khadija Al-Haj Salim is one of the inspiring stories of resilience and success that has left an impact on those who have heard it. Khadija is a kidney dialysis patient who spends three days every week at the dialysis center. She fights against the illness, which sometimes weakens her but never breaks her spirit and determination to live, especially after losing her sisters to the same disease.
Despite the challenges, 22-year-old Khadija clings to life even more. She utilizes the time spent outside the dialysis center to enhance her self-confidence and be with her supportive family. Due to continuous need for dialysis, she lost her education. However, hope sprouted anew in her heart when she learned about the Masarat Initiative and enrolled in it with the hope of obtaining a basic education certificate after years of being away from schooling.
Khadija utilizes her hours of sitting at the dialysis center to browse Masarat’s lessons, discussing them with her teachers. They sharpen her determination and commend her perseverance. She holds onto her love for learning more and more, aspiring to pass the exams and reach the secondary stage with her classmates.
Insight & Knowledge Lead to Hope
With gentle hands and a tender heart guided by unwavering insight, Lana Jabara flips through the pages of YouTube to receive lessons in the literary branch of the Secondary Education program on Masarat’s platform. Lana relies on her hearing and memory to store information, compensating for the blessing of sight that she has been deprived of.
Lana’s blindness did not confine her within the walls of her home. Instead, she overcame it and embarked on her dreams, far surpassing her friends and peers who are of the same age.
Her blazing insight drives her to continue her education and obtain the secondary education certificate, bringing her closer to the realization of her dream of entering a university. All of this is made possible with the assistance and care of her mother, who has been and continues to be Lana’s eyes through whom she sees. Lana is the ambitious young woman who teaches us a lesson that no obstacle can delay ambition and success.
